Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi has made a blistering start at KRC Genk, scoring in each of his first four Belgian Pro League appearances after completing a club-record €10.5 million move from Pisa in July.
The 23-year-old opened his account with a header against Zulte Waregem on August 9, followed by a penalty against Westerlo and another goal in Genk’s 4-4 draw with Royal Antwerp. His scoring streak continued on Friday against SK Beveren, when he converted an early penalty in a 4-0 victory to take his tally to four goals in four league matches.
Durosinmi’s immediate impact has already triggered speculation about a significant rise in his market value, with former Belgian striker Patrick Goots suggesting the Nigerian could now be worth several million euros more than Genk paid for him.
Goots praised the striker’s ability to hold up the ball, bring composure to the attack and put pressure on opposing defences, qualities that align with Genk’s expectations when they signed him. Durosinmi has also embraced the club’s collective approach, contributing defensively while adapting quickly to Belgian football and setting his sights on challenging for the league’s Golden Boot.
The striker’s explosive form could also strengthen his claim for a more prominent role with the Super Eagles, having already earned three international caps. With Nigeria preparing for their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign in September, consistent performances at club level could give coach Eric Chelle another strong attacking option.
The bigger question, however, is whether Genk can keep Durosinmi beyond this season, with Goots predicting that continued goalscoring at his current rate could make a major transfer increasingly difficult to avoid.
