AI Startup Scimplify Secures $25M to Disrupt Critical Materials Market
Indian startup Scimplify has raised $25 million to expand its AI-powered platform for producing specialty chemicals and critical materials, aiming to reduce global reliance on concentrated supply chains. Led by Hitachi Ventures, the funding round highlights Scimplify's rapid growth and its success in accelerating material commercialization for key sectors like semiconductors, defense, and energy. The company, now valued at $250 million, plans significant expansion into the U.S. and Japan, further bolstering its global presence and impact.
Indian startup Scimplify has successfully raised $25 million in an all-equity strategic funding round, aimed at expanding its AI-powered platform for producing specialty chemicals and critical materials. This investment comes at a time when industries globally are striving to reduce their reliance on Chinese suppliers. Hitachi Ventures led the round, with new strategic investors Henkel and Teknor Apex also participating. Existing backers Accel India, Bertelsmann India Investments, Omnivore, and 3one4 Capital reaffirmed their support. Following this investment, the Bengaluru-based startup is now valued at $250 million, up from $150 million after a $40 million Series B round in March 2025. This latest infusion brings Scimplify's total equity funding to $80 million.
Scimplify's core mission is to address the slow and complex process of transforming promising chemistry into commercially viable products at scale. While AI and advanced computational tools have accelerated materials discovery, the subsequent steps of developing production processes, qualifying facilities, and meeting stringent quality standards, often hindered by limited global supply chains, remain significant bottlenecks. Founded in 2023, Scimplify leverages its innovative approach to drastically shorten these timelines, in some cases delivering finished materials within two months, a process that typically takes 12 to 18 months.
The company's operational model involves developing chemical manufacturing processes at its research facilities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These processes are then transferred to a network of over 500 partner factories for commercial production. Central to this efficiency is Scimplify’s proprietary AI platform, Scinode, which orchestrates the entire workflow. Scinode identifies optimal production routes and manufacturing facilities, while also meticulously tracking quality and regulatory requirements. Co-founder Sachin Santhosh highlighted that Scinode utilizes specialized AI agents for distinct functions, including research, manufacturing, and quality control, working backward from customer requirements to ensure rapid and context-aware solutions.
Scimplify's in-house team of scientists and engineers oversees production across its extensive network, helping customers establish alternative sources for materials whose supply is concentrated in specific regions, primarily China. Currently, about 90% of Scimplify’s manufacturing takes place in India. However, the startup has ambitious plans to expand its production network to the U.S. and Japan over the next year, aiming to attract more customers in these key markets. Semiconductors, defense, and energy have emerged as critical growth sectors, now accounting for 45% to 50% of Scimplify’s revenue, a significant jump from less than 15% a year ago, driven by AI-fueled demand for electronics and energy infrastructure, and the global defense industry's needs.
The company has demonstrated remarkable financial growth. Its annualized revenue run rate in the U.S. alone has soared sixfold to approximately $60 million from $10 million a year ago, now constituting roughly 30% of its total business. Customers outside India collectively contribute more than half of its revenue, a substantial increase from less than 5% just 18 months prior. Overall, Scimplify, serving over 1,000 customers and delivering to more than 40 countries, has achieved an annualized revenue run rate of about $200 million, tripling from the previous year, and is targeting $400 million over the next year. Furthermore, the startup has been EBITDA-positive for the past two months and anticipates achieving profitability after tax this month.
In its effort to reduce global supply chain dependency, Scimplify is actively working on producing materials such as tungsten derivatives from scrap, offering an alternative source for materials heavily concentrated in China. It is also focusing on rare-earth materials, another category with high reliance on Chinese supply chains. Scimplify collaborates with a diverse customer base, including notable names like Japanese electronics manufacturer TDK, German chemicals group BASF, and Hitachi, demonstrating its capability to shorten development and delivery timelines for complex specialty materials.
The newly secured funding will be strategically deployed, with approximately $7.5 million earmarked for U.S. expansion, including the development of its manufacturing network, though this allocation remains flexible. An additional $2 million is allocated for further enhancing the Scinode AI platform. Scimplify currently employs about 340 people, including roughly 70 scientists, with the majority of its workforce based in India, complemented by local teams in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, and the UAE.
