Starmer Orders Inquiry Into Mandelson's Washington Tenure Amid Leaks Fear

Keir Starmer has accused sacked Foreign Office mandarin Sir Olly Robbins of deliberately blocking the truth, failing to inform No. 10 about Mandelson's vetting failure on at least four separate occasions.

The sensitive vetting file, including details on Mandelson's personal life, finances, and business ties has now been handed to the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) for review.

Starmer told MPs he found it "frankly staggering" that senior officials kept him in the dark while he publicly insisted "full due process" was followed.

Robbins is expected to argue he followed established protocol and may claim he would have broken the law had he shared vetting details with ministers.

A full review of the UK vetting system has been ordered. Ambassadorial appointments can no longer be announced before security vetting is complete.

Senior Labour figures believe Starmer will survive, but warn of "toxic relations" with Whitehall and increased civil service leaks ahead.
