This incident follows a series of high-profile movie leaks, including other Spider-Man titles and "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender," highlighting a growing concern for intellectual property in the film industry.
The highly anticipated film “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has been affected by an unauthorized leak, with its trailer appearing online on Twitter/X this week. This third installment in the “Spider-Verse” series is officially scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 18, 2027. Co-writer and producer Chris Miller publicly addressed the incident on Friday, expressing his disapproval by stating, “Not a fan of unfinished, not fully rendered footage.”
This incident marks “Beyond the Spider-Verse” as the latest high-profile movie to suffer from a leak. In the preceding month, major blockbusters such as “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” also had their content leaked onto X following their theatrical releases. This is not an isolated event for the “Spider-Man” franchise, as the trailer for 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” similarly leaked weeks before its public debut online.
Earlier this year, the full version of “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” was leaked onto X months in advance of its planned release on Paramount+ streaming. This particular breach led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man in Singapore, who was apprehended for illegally accessing a media server to obtain and leak the film. The cast of “Avatar Aang” and original “Last Airbender” stars subsequently spoke out against the unauthorized release, urging fans to refrain from watching the leaked version. Actor Eric Nam emphasized the importance of respecting the creators’ intentions, telling Variety at Comic-Con after the leak, “There’s something about respecting the intentions of the creators and many artists who poured years of their life into this. To go about it the proper way is a very respectful way of showing appreciation to the art form and to the many, many, countless hours put into this. Thank you guys for waiting.”
Despite several production delays, “Beyond the Spider-Verse” is set to conclude Miles Morales’ narrative as Spider-Man. The initial footage for the film was exclusively showcased at CinemaCon earlier this year, building anticipation for its eventual release.
