Terra Ignites Nigerian Cybersecurity: $1M Investment Boosts Startup Aeon!

Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon has successfully raised $1 million in pre-seed funding, a significant step in its mission to protect critical infrastructure. The funding round was led by defense technology company Terra Industries, with additional participation from Resilience17, the investment fund of Flutterwave co-founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola, and other strategic investors. Founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu, Aeon is developing advanced cybersecurity software specifically designed for vital sectors such as banking, energy companies, governments, militaries, and other organizations that operate critical infrastructure.

Aeon's innovative platform integrates network and data security solutions with robust tools for monitoring and remediating vulnerabilities across various digital environments, including software, cloud systems, and devices. This comprehensive approach aims to provide a unified view of an organization's security posture, addressing a common challenge where entities often rely on multiple disparate tools that do not offer a consolidated perspective of their cyber exposure.

The investment follows a successful pilot program conducted between Aeon and Terra Industries earlier in 2026. Building on this collaboration, the two companies have now formalized a commercial joint venture. This partnership is designed to combine Terra's established physical security systems with Aeon's cutting-edge cybersecurity products, creating a holistic security offering.

Through this joint venture, Aeon and Terra Industries plan to jointly pursue contracts with governments and private companies across Africa and other Global South markets. Terra Industries specializes in developing autonomous systems used for the protection of physical infrastructure and military assets. The strategic investment in Aeon expands Terra's existing model into the realm of digital security, enabling customers to address both physical and cyber threats through a single commercial relationship.

Aeon intends to position its technology as foundational infrastructure that organizations can leverage to manage their security operations efficiently, without the fragmentation often associated with using numerous separate systems. This integrated approach is particularly crucial given the escalating landscape of cyber risks. According to INTERPOL, cyber incidents have resulted in estimated losses exceeding $3 billion across Africa since 2019, impacting key sectors such as finance, healthcare, energy, and government.

The $1 million funding will be primarily utilized to further develop Aeon's product capabilities and to expand deployments in collaboration with Terra Industries, as well as with other customers. The deal is particularly notable because Terra is not merely a financial backer; the creation of a joint commercial model signifies a deep integration, allowing Terra to enhance its product offering with cybersecurity capabilities without the need for internal development, while providing Aeon with access to Terra’s established defense and infrastructure network to reduce customer acquisition challenges. The success of this partnership hinges on converting pilot programs into long-term contracts and demonstrating the technology's adaptability across diverse operational environments, offering both companies a strategic advantage in securing contracts where physical and cyber risks increasingly converge.
