Sons of Anarchy Cast Reunites for FX Thriller Series 'Legends'!
The acclaimed cast of "Sons of Anarchy" is reuniting for a new limited series on FX and Hulu called "Legends." This meta-thriller will see the actors play themselves, facing a real-world threat at a fan convention, blurring the lines between their on-screen brotherhood and reality. Developed by star Charlie Hunnam, the show promises a unique adventure that's both a tribute to the original series and a fresh narrative twist.
Fans of the hit outlaw biker drama “Sons of Anarchy” can rejoice, as FX has greenlit a new limited series titled “Legends” that will reunite much of the original show’s main cast. This highly anticipated miniseries promises a unique twist, bringing back beloved characters in a new, meta-thriller format where the lines between fiction and reality blur.
The series will feature an impressive roster of returning stars, including Charlie Hunnam as Jax, Ron Perlman as Clay, Katey Sagal as Gemma, Maggie Siff as Tara, Mark Boone Junior as Bobby, Tommy Flanagan as Chibs, Kim Coates as Tig, and Theo Rossi as Juice. Despite many principal characters meeting their demise by the end of “Sons of Anarchy’s” seventh and final season in 2014, “Legends” finds a creative way to bring the fractured brotherhood back together.
The intriguing logline for “Legends” states: “When the cast of “Sons of Anarchy” reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.” This concept positions the actors as themselves, drawn into a perilous real-world conflict during a convention commemorating their iconic series.
Charlie Hunnam, who starred as the lead in “Sons of Anarchy,” developed “Legends” alongside Jonathan Groff, known for his work on “black-ish” and “How I Met Your Mother.” Both Hunnam and Groff will serve as executive producers, joined by Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel, and Jackie Cohn. The series will be produced by FX Productions and 20th Television.
Nick Grad, FX Entertainment president, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “When Charlie brought us this inspired idea, we instantly sparked to his bold and entertaining vision. Charlie’s talents are on full display as a writer, performer and executive producer, leading the real-life brotherhood on an adventure that is both a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.”
“Sons of Anarchy,” created by Kurt Sutter, was a significant early success for FX, aiding the network’s push into original scripted dramas nearly two decades ago. Premiering in 2008, the show ran for seven seasons, totaling nearly 100 episodes. It revolved around the Sons of Anarchy, an outlaw motorcycle club in Charming, California, focusing on Jax Teller’s journey as the heir apparent amidst escalating conflicts with rival gangs, law enforcement, and internal club tensions.
The new series is currently in development at FX and Hulu, which were also the longtime cable and streaming homes for the original show. A release date has not yet been announced. Hunnam has continued to build a diverse career, recently earning his first Emmy nomination for his role in the Netflix anthology series “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” and starring in projects like “Shantaram,” “The Gentlemen,” and “Pacific Rim.”
