Skrillex & Local Legends Ignite Nyege Nyege 2025 in Uganda
The Nyege Nyege festival marked its significant 10th anniversary with an electrifying four-day celebration at Kalagala Falls. Thousands of music enthusiasts converged on the banks of the Nile, immersed in an atmosphere that radiated shared joy and the rich cultural vibrancy of Uganda. This milestone was amplified by a dual celebration, as Uganda Waragi, a national icon, simultaneously celebrated its 60th year, serving as a pivotal element that connected generations of fans throughout the event.
Festival-goers indulged in the classic Premium Uganda Waragi, while new attendees had the opportunity to sample its Lemon and Ginger variants. These beverages were perfectly complemented by a variety of classic Ugandan street food, including rolex and grilled meat combos, readily available at numerous food stations across the festival grounds. Hilda Aguti, Marketing Manager of Mainstream Spirits at Uganda Breweries, expressed her enthusiasm for the occasion, stating, "For 60 years as Uganda Waragi and 10 years as Nyege Nyege, we have been bringing people together to celebrate our culture, our music, and our distinct flavor. It's a pleasure to be here today toasting to the past, present, and future of all things truly Ugandan."
The musical program was a testament to both tradition and innovation. Day three's Main Stage showcased emerging talents like Tai Dai and DJ Bugy alongside the seasoned Silverback DJs. Joshua Baraka captivated the audience on the Main Stage, later making a surprise appearance as his DJ alter ego, Carlos Lopez, at the Ubuntu Stage, which was already buzzing with the eclectic mixes of Zonke Africa's DJs. The Hakuna Kulala area, with its sandy floor, provided an immersive and playful experience for revellers. As night deepened, Otim Alpha uniquely blended Electronic Dance Music (EDM) with traditional Luo beats from Northern Uganda, setting the stage for the highly anticipated headline act, global icon Skrillex, who delivered a high-energy spectacle of lights and bass.
In a true reflection of the Ugandan spirit, the anticipation shifted towards a local legend as the early hours approached. Around 5 a.m., Suuna Ben took to the stage, delivering an EDM-infused rendition of his signature kinyanyanyanya sound, igniting the crowd who celebrated with branches raised high. Amidst the euphoria, Uganda Breweries prioritized attendee well-being by establishing a dedicated fun zone. This area offered complimentary water, engaging trivia, board games, and karaoke, ensuring festival-goers remained energized and hydrated. As other stages concluded with the first light of morning, the Sunrise Stage, harmoniously paired with the rushing waters of the Nile, offered guests a tranquil space for reflection, grounding them in the serene beauty of the surroundings. In these quiet moments, the profound message became clear: the Spirit of Uganda had been shared, celebrated, and deeply felt by all.
