Shockwaves in Benue: PDP Lawmaker Jumps Ship to APC for Stability
Hon. Ojema Ojotu, the sole PDP lawmaker from Benue State in the House of Representatives, has defected to the ruling APC. Citing deep internal crises and a 'rudderless direction' within the PDP, Ojotu expressed his belief that the APC offers a more stable platform for serving his constituents and contributing to national development.
Hon. Ojema Ojotu, the sole representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Benue State in the House of Representatives, has officially announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Ojotu, who represents the Apa/Agatu federal constituency of Benue State, made his decision public in a letter that was read during a plenary session on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The lawmaker was accompanied by the Benue State Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, a member of the APC, at the time of his announcement. Ojotu cited significant internal turmoil within the PDP as the primary catalyst for his departure. He specifically mentioned "persistent internal crisis, unresolved leadership tussle and deep divisions within the party from the national level to his constituency," which he stated has left the party without clear direction.
After extensive consultations with his family, key stakeholders, political associates, and the constituents of his federal constituency, Ojotu concluded that aligning with the APC was the necessary step. He expressed his belief that the All Progressives Congress offers "a more stable and progressive environment" that will enable him to continuously serve the interests of his people and contribute effectively to national development.
