A friend shared with People Magazine, "She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit." Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager also noted that Keaton had become extremely thin before her shock passing and was significantly affected by wildfires that devastated Los Angeles earlier in the year, requiring her to relocate to Palm Springs due to internal damage to her home. Keaton had previously shared her struggle with bulimia in 2014, describing it as "the lowest point in [her] life."
