Shocking Outrage: Female NYSC Member Brutally Stripped and Beaten by Anambra Vigilante in Viral Video

A disturbing incident involving a female corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, and operatives of the Anambra vigilante group has sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria. The incident, which occurred on July 23, 2025, in Oba, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, involved gun-wielding officials of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, storming a lodge occupied by corps members. The vigilante operatives accused the corps members of engaging in cybercrime, specifically 'Yahoo Yahoo'.
Despite the corps members immediately displaying their uniforms and identity cards, the vigilante operatives proceeded with a brutal assault. The video, which went viral on August 19, 2025, shows Jennifer Edema Elohor being dragged out of her compound while clad in a gown. The gunmen repeatedly hit her before tearing her dress off her body, leaving her completely naked and exposed. She cried and pleaded with them, but the men continued to beat her on various parts of her body. At one point, one of the vigilante members was seen laughing as the woman lay stripped and vulnerable.
The Haven360 Foundation, an organization advocating for the victim, uploaded the clip and condemned the act as a gross human rights violation. They highlighted that the victims were subjected to unsavory, horrible, sexually degrading words and actions, including threats of sexual violation. The foundation called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved, along with comprehensive reparation and compensation for the physical harm and psychological trauma inflicted.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the assault, stating that suspects have been identified and arrested. However, the Command's Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the ongoing investigation has been temporarily stalled due to Ms. Elohor's failure to appear. The Police Command reiterated that assault in any form is a criminal offense under Nigerian law and assured corps members of their unwavering commitment to protection, urging them to report incidents of harassment. They also cautioned vigilante groups against brutality or abuse of authority, warning of severe consequences for misconduct.
The incident drew strong reactions from prominent figures. Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State governor, condemned the assault as disturbing and asserted that such demeaning approaches do not reflect the state's humane philosophy. She emphasized that rules of engagement must prioritize dignity, civility, and respect, appealing to authorities to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences, as Anambra's image is priceless. The state government has also ordered the arrest of the operatives involved.
Former Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, expressed deep shame and heartbreak over the
