Shocking IVF Fraud: Pastor Doctor Faces Court Over Alleged N19M Embryo Sale Scandal in Abuja

The Federal Government has filed criminal charges against Dr. John Abebe, an Abuja-based doctor and pastor at Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel) in Durumi, for alleged involvement in a N19 million IVF embryo sale scandal.

The suit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory under number CV/005/26, also names his institution, Joje Abebe Fertility Centre Limited. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun is leading the prosecution.

Dr. Abebe faces accusations of fraud, criminal conspiracy, unlawful disclosure of confidential medical records, and selling a couple’s embryos.

The first count alleges that Dr. Abebe, described as Chief Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, released the confidential medical records of Mrs. Mary Manga to the public without her consent. This allegedly occurred on or before August 6, 2025, in Abuja, constituting an abuse of office.

The second count details a breach of a confidential agreement concerning Mr. Adamu Hassan, Mrs. Manga’s husband. Dr. Abebe is accused of exposing Mr. Hassan's poor fertility status to a third party on or about September 17, 2025.

The charges claim that these disclosures caused emotional trauma to the victims and violated statutory medical confidentiality obligations.

Authorities have highlighted the severity of the case, noting that criminal penalties may follow if Dr. Abebe is found guilty of unlawful embryo sale and related offenses.

The public is urged to follow updates on the FCT High Court proceedings as the trial unfolds.
