Shocking Cult Violence: Anambra Community Leader, One Other Brutally Killed in Ogidi

The Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has been thrown into grief following the brutal killing of its President General, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, and another unidentified individual. The attack, which occurred on Friday evening, is attributed to suspected members of the Neo-Black Movement, widely known as the Aye cult.
Investigations and community sources suggest that the killings were a reprisal for the earlier death of Emma Amasco, a suspected cult member approximately 25 years old. Amasco had reportedly been apprehended in Onitsha for alleged criminal activities but was later returned to Ogidi through the intervention of community leadership, including the traditional ruler and the late President General. Chief Okoye was recognized for his unwavering opposition to cultism and violent crime within the community.
Following Amasco's death, suspected cultists allegedly launched a retaliatory strike, during which Chief Okoye was tragically shot and killed in a busy section of Ogidi town, causing profound shock and fear among residents.
The Anambra State Police Command has officially confirmed the incidents, establishing a link between the killings and the recent arrest and subsequent death of the suspected cult member. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that police operatives swiftly responded to secure the scene and have commenced a thorough investigation. He further emphasized that the Command is diligently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and apprehend all individuals responsible for these violent acts.
The police have extended their deepest condolences to the Ogidi community and have assured residents that efforts are being intensified to bring the perpetrators to justice. The public is urged to remain calm and to cooperate fully with security agencies as the investigations continue to restore peace and order.
