Shocking Crime: Jigawa Newlywed Arrested For Allegedly Poisoning Husband

The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a newly wedded woman implicated in the alleged poisoning and death of her husband. The incident, which police described as a tragic case linked to forced marriage, occurred on January 23, in Gauza village within the Jahun Local Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, disclosed these details in a statement.
According to police accounts, the deceased consumed his lunch at home, prepared by his wife, and shortly thereafter fell seriously ill. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was tragically pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Following the incident, detectives from the Jahun Divisional Police Headquarters promptly initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest of the wife as the principal suspect. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to poisoning her husband’s food with rat poison. She further admitted to sending her cousin to purchase the lethal substance used in committing the act.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that she was forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she claimed significantly influenced her decision to commit the act.
In response to the gravity of the case, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the investigation be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a comprehensive and thorough inquiry. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect will be formally charged to court for prosecution.
The police command also took the opportunity to appeal to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding. They urged individuals to seek lawful and appropriate means for resolving family and marital disputes, stressing that resorting to self-help and taking the law into one’s hands often leads to irreversible and regrettable consequences.
