Court Sets May 26 for DSS Terrorism Trial Against Abubakar Malami and Son
The Federal High Court in Abuja has set May 26 and June 15 for the trial of Abubakar Malami, former AGF, and his son, Abdulaziz, on alleged terrorism charges. Both pleaded not guilty to an amended charge accusing them of illegally possessing a firearm and cartridges in December 2025. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik allowed them to remain on bail as the DSS prepares its case.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 26 and June 15 for the trial of former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, over alleged terrorism charges filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).
During proceedings before Joyce Abdulmalik, the prosecution presented an amended charge, replacing the earlier one, to which both defendants pleaded not guilty.
Defence counsel Shaibu Aruwa (SAN) confirmed receipt of the amended charge and requested that his clients remain on existing bail, noting they had met all conditions, a request the court granted without opposition from the prosecution.
Justice Abdulmalik upheld the earlier bail ruling, allowing the defendants to remain free pending trial, and adjourned proceedings to the scheduled dates.
The amended charges allege that in December 2025, the defendants conspired and prepared to commit acts of terrorism by possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Birnin Kebbi, in violation of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act.
The counts include unlawful possession of a Sturm Magnum firearm, live cartridges, and expended rounds, framing the case as both a terrorism-related and arms control violation under Nigerian law.
