Tinubu's Shock 2027 Campaign Reshuffle: Wike, Opposition Stars Take Center Stage
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a revised 2027 Presidential Campaign Council that strategically includes prominent opposition politicians like Nyesom Wike, Ademola Adeleke, and Chukwuma Soludo. This move aims to build cross-party alliances and leverage diverse political networks to secure President Bola Tinubu's re-election, emphasizing a broad coalition beyond traditional party lines.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has significantly revised the composition of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, notably by integrating prominent opposition politicians into strategic roles ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. This cross-party alliance strategy aims to broaden support beyond the ruling party’s membership, with the campaign council scheduled for inauguration on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clarified that this decision was made to accommodate individuals from other political parties who are willing to contribute to Tinubu’s re-election. He emphasized that the president’s re-election campaign should not be restricted to APC members, as the constitutional requirement for a political party platform, such as the APC, acts as an 'umbrella' for individuals to further their political ambition. This expanded arrangement, according to Wike, reflects a broader coalition of supporters who believe Tinubu should continue in office.
Nyesom Wike's appointment is particularly significant, placing him in charge of campaign coordination for both Rivers State, where he previously served as governor, and the FCT, where he currently serves as minister. Despite his PDP affiliation, Wike has publicly supported Tinubu's re-election since March 2026, even while maintaining that the PDP could still field candidates in other elections. His leadership of the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party platform focused on mobilizing support for Tinubu, gains a more formal role within the campaign structure. Wike's value is seen in his political connections, capacity to reach influential stakeholders and grassroots networks, and extensive experience in election campaigns, political negotiations, and mobilization gained during his eight years as Rivers State governor. His assignment makes Rivers and the FCT key campaign fronts for Tinubu.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, affiliated with the Accord Party, has been named Campaign Coordinator for Osun State. This appointment is crucial given his re-election victory in August 2026 and his role in engaging stakeholders in a state known for its political competitiveness between the APC and opposition parties.
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will serve as Anambra State Campaign Coordinator. His inclusion provides the APC campaign with a link to a governor whose political base is rooted in APGA. Soludo, re-elected in November 2025, stated in March 2026 that APGA would not field a presidential candidate in 2027 and expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, arguing that cooperation with the federal government would benefit Anambra State. APGA welcomed his inclusion, aligning it with the party’s stance on cooperation.
Former Gombe State Governor and PDP Senator representing Gombe North, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has been appointed as a Campaign Council Adviser. Unlike the state coordinators, the specific scope of his responsibilities has not been detailed in the revised list. Dankwambo previously served as Accountant-General of the Federation before his governorship from 2011 to 2019.
Other notable opposition figures joining the campaign include Segun Sowunmi and Lere Olayinka, both appointed to the Media and Communications Directorate. Sowunmi, historically a PDP chieftain and spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, declared his support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in September 2026, advocating for
