Man Stabbed in Prestwich as Police Seal Off Residential Cul-de-Sac, Leaves Residents in Shock
A man in his 30s was stabbed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, prompting a major police response. Two suspects have been arrested as detectives investigate the shocking incident.
The quiet residential street of Carrigart in Prestwich has been shaken by a stabbing incident, leaving residents in a state of shock and disbelief. Emergency services descended upon the small cul-de-sac, located off Bury New Road near St Mary's Park, shortly before 2:30pm on Wednesday, July 22, following reports of the assault.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a man in his 30s was stabbed in the leg. Eyewitness accounts from residents described a harrowing scene, with "blood splattered" across the grass and pavement in front of properties. Paramedics attended to the injured man at the scene before transporting him to hospital for further medical treatment. His current condition remains unknown.
In connection with the incident, a man and a woman, both also in their 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They are currently being held in custody for questioning as the investigation continues. The street remained taped off into the evening, with a police cordon in place and forensic teams alongside detectives meticulously working at the scene to gather evidence.
Those living nearby expressed their horror and fear regarding the violence that unfolded on their doorsteps.
One anonymous resident described the scene as "horrific," stating her "little boy had to come home to a bloodbath and step over it. It's not good." She added, "It's a bit weird... Just not a nice thing to happen on your doorstep. I am shocked it's happened here."
Another resident who came out around 4pm to empty bins saw "so much blood" on the walkway, finding it "scary" and promptly returning indoors.
Mohammed, 38, initially feared a fatality upon seeing the extensive police activity but was relieved to learn otherwise, though he still found it "very shocking." He highlighted the demographic of the area, noting, "The majority of people who live here are elderly or families. I’ve got little kids and the fact it’s happened so close, I just didn’t think it would happen here."
While one neighbour felt "not surprised" by the event, having a "feeling something bad was going to happen," another expressed deep unease, stating, "It's strange to see it taped off. It's a nice, quiet area. have never seen anything like this before. It makes you nervous."
The incident has undeniably disrupted the sense of peace in the usually tranquil neighbourhood.
