In a historic leap for Nigeria’s digital entertainment scene, popular content creator Shank Comics has officially become the most followed Nigerian streamer on Twitch, surpassing the 90,000-follower mark just days after a major appearance at Kai Cenat’s Streamer University.
The Nigerian comedian and skit-maker turned streamer witnessed an explosive surge in popularity—gaining over 74,000 followers in just four days—after impressing a global audience with his unique blend of humor and authenticity during the high-profile content creator bootcamp.
Streamer University, a first-of-its-kind live event hosted by American Twitch megastar Kai Cenat, was held from May 22 to 25 at the University of Akron, Ohio. The program brought together 120 rising creators for a weekend of hands-on mentorship, live-streamed challenges, and real-time content creation. Thousands more joined virtually, as the event attracted millions of viewers across Twitch and social media.
Shank’s performance stood out among the crowd, culminating in his winning a $10,000 prize sponsored by YouTube legend MrBeast for his creativity, humor, and massive viewer engagement during the boot camp.
“He’s making Nigeria proud on a global stage,” read one viral comment on X (formerly Twitter), as clips of Shank’s moments during the event circulated widely.
The Twitch milestone is being celebrated not just as a personal victory for Shank, but as a landmark moment for African streaming culture. With global eyes now turned toward Nigeria's vibrant digital creator community, many see Shank’s success as the beginning of a new wave of African influence in the livestreaming world.
As the digital entertainment world rapidly evolves, Shank Comics is proving that African voices not only belong on the global stage—they can dominate it.
