The acclaimed ice-hockey romance series, “Heated Rivalry,” has garnered immense popularity, particularly after its U.S. debut on HBO Max in November 2025.

Initially, it was premiering on Crave in Canada, the show quickly became a word-of-mouth hit by early 2026, with episodes reaching an impressive average viewership of over 10 million.

Its global success and time spent atop streaming charts led to an inevitable renewal for a second season, which fans eagerly anticipate.

This was created by Jacob Tierney and based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” book series, “Heated Rivalry” delves into the intense, skate-crossed love affair between rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie).

This series is bound by ambition, rivalry, and a magnetic pull neither fully understands, their relationship evolves from a secret fling between fresh-faced rookies into a years-long journey of love, denial, and self-discovery.

The first season, which earned critical acclaim with scores of 97% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, captivatingly portrayed their complex dynamic.

Additional cast members for the first season included François Arnaud as Scott Hunter, Callan Potter as Hayden Pike, Franco Lo Presti as Cliff Marleau, Christina Chang as Yuna Hollander, and Benjamin Roy as JJ Dagenais, among others.

As cameras are now rolling for Season 2, which draws its premise from Reid's sixth book, “The Long Game,” viewers can expect the story to explore new complexities.

This season will see Shane and Ilya playing on teams that are geographically closer, forcing them to navigate the challenges and implications of taking their relationship public.

The highly anticipated second season is expected to debut on HBO Max in spring 2027, or early 2027.

With exciting new additions to the Season 2 cast have been announced, further warming up the series. Kevin Zegers, known for his roles in “The Madison” and “Transamerica,” joins as Coach Wiebe. Paul Gross, recognized for “Good Night, and Good Luck” and “Tales of the City,” will portray Commissioner Roger Crowell.

The production of “Heated Rivalry” is commissioned by Bell Media’s Crave, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund (CMF).

Jacob Tierney serves as the series’ creator, writer, director, and executive producer, while Brendan Brady and Jayme Alter Wilson also serve as executive producers.

Lori Fischburg and Liane Cunje are producers, with Rachel Reid acting as a consulting producer, and Mike Goldbach co-writing for Season 2.
