Scandal Rocks Top Minister: Umahi Responds to Explosive Sex-for-Debt and N280m Allegations

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has firmly stated his dedication to official duties, asserting that he will not be sidetracked by the N280 million campaign debt and sexual harassment allegations brought against him by Mrs. Tracy Nither Ohiri. Speaking recently in Awka, Anambra State, and later in Enugu after inspecting federal government projects, Umahi addressed the claims, emphasizing that the matter is currently before the court and that "he who alleges, must prove."
Mrs. Ohiri had made these accusations in a viral video, leading to her subsequent arraignment before a Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on a defamation charge. Minister Umahi described himself metaphorically as "David who is not afraid of war," vowing that all allegations must be substantiated in court. He stressed his resolve not to be silenced by social media insults, maintaining that he remains undistracted.
Umahi further dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, suggesting they are linked to the approaching electoral season. He called on the public not to insult their leaders, reminding them that "what a man soweth is what he reaps." The Minister highlighted his extensive public service record, having served as party chairman, deputy governor, and governor for eight years, during which he states no individual ever accused him of harassment or outstanding debts. He characterized any such claims now as potentially mischievous.
Addressing specific facets of the controversy, Umahi denied deploying police against Ohiri concerning the alleged campaign debt. He clarified that the police acted upon a petition submitted by his lawyer and adhered to due process, noting that the matter remains under investigation and he respects institutional processes. He also dismissed suggestions of him pursuing anyone for years as unrealistic, believing the controversy is primarily designed to generate online discussion.
The Minister concluded by urging the public to direct their attention to other pressing national and international issues, rather than the ongoing online debate. He reaffirmed his commitment to the "callings of God almighty, the people and Mr. President," despite acknowledging the inherent challenges and "war" associated with contracting work in the current climate. Umahi reiterated that the social media content only makes him stronger, as he has "fought many battles," and this current situation is "nothing." He also made a notable remark regarding personal approaches, stating, "if you want to woo me, woo me properly and be of my standard if you want to woo me."
