Sadie Sink's Shocking 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Finale Confession: 'It Snuck Up On Me!'

Collider's Steve Weintraub recently sat down with the cast of Netflix's 'Stranger Things' – Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin – ahead of the highly anticipated Season 5, Volume 1 premiere. The interview delved into the profound emotional experience of reading and filming the series finale, shared memorable fan interactions, and explored their picks for ultimate Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan movies.
The journey for the kids of Hawkins, Indiana, has been long and perilous. From playing D&D in a basement to confronting Vecna's legions escaping the Upside Down, the stakes have never been higher. As the two-volume final season approaches, the cast reflected on the emotional weight of concluding a decade-long chapter of their lives.
Discussing the series finale script, which they reportedly read together, Sadie Sink admitted, "Emotional. I wasn't expecting to get that worked up. It snuck up on us, I think." Finn Wolfhard echoed this sentiment, initially convinced he wouldn't cry, only to find himself choking up during a line. Gaten Matarazzo described a domino effect of emotions, with Finn's tears triggering his own, and Caleb McLaughlin initially trying to stay composed before emotions inevitably hit during filming. McLaughlin vividly described the finale as feeling like an "anime," with a slow, beautiful, score-backed sequence, almost like a "flashback" happening in real-time," leaving a powerful impression on the cast.
The conversation also explored the more unusual aspects of their fame, specifically bizarre fan interactions. Finn Wolfhard recalled a peculiar incident at a signing where a fan's mother insisted her daughter receive his half-drunk water, leading to a strange scuffle when he politely declined. Gaten Matarazzo and Sadie Sink both recounted separate instances of fans knocking on their doors at home. Matarazzo, mistaking two young girls for Girl Scout cookie sellers while in his pajamas, was met by their father shouting from his car, asking for a picture – highlighting a sense of entitlement some fans display.
Transitioning to cinematic preferences, the cast collectively gravitated towards "Jaws" as their favorite Steven Spielberg movie. Finn Wolfhard humorously suggested "War Horse" as an unexpected choice, while Gaten Matarazzo mused about the play adaptation. Caleb McLaughlin clarified his appreciation by discussing the film's New York-adjacent setting, similar to the small-town vibe 'Stranger Things' initially aimed for. For Christopher Nolan's filmography, "Interstellar" emerged as a strong contender, with Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, and Caleb McLaughlin expressing admiration. Matarazzo, however, favored "Dunkirk", and "The Dark Knight Rises" also garnered significant support from Sink and Wolfhard, showcasing the diverse appeal of Nolan's works.
As the final season looms, anticipation is at an all-time high, with fans eagerly awaiting the resolution of the Hawkins saga. 'Stranger Things' Season 5, Volume 1 is set to premiere on Netflix on November 26, promising an emotional and thrilling conclusion to the beloved series.
