Rock Icon Rod Stewart Slams Trump: 'Draft Dodger' Row Ignites!

Legendary rock star Sir Rod Stewart has publicly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump, directly addressing remarks Trump made regarding NATO troops in Afghanistan. On Friday, January 23, the 81-year-old Knight of the Realm shared a video on social media, expressing profound disappointment and hurt over Trump's suggestion that forces from other NATO countries avoided front-line combat during the conflict.
Stewart, who was born just after World War II, emphasized his deep respect for the armed forces that fought for freedom. He took strong exception to Trump, whom he referred to as a "draft dodger," criticizing the troops. Stewart highlighted the significant sacrifices made by U.K. service members, noting that over 400 British personnel served in Afghanistan. He passionately urged viewers to consider the parents of these soldiers, stating it was "unbearable" for Trump to imply they were "almost like cowards."
In a direct appeal, Stewart called upon current UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to intervene and compel Trump to issue an apology for his comments. Throughout Stewart's brief video message, powerful phrases such as "We shall never forget," "So disrespectful," "Honor them," "Disgraceful," and "Take a stand" flashed across the screen, reinforcing the gravity of his sentiments.
Trump's controversial statements originated from an interview given to Fox News from Davos, Switzerland, earlier in the week. In that interview, Trump had commented on the involvement of other NATO countries in Afghanistan, saying, "You know, they'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that, and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines."
Beyond this immediate controversy, Stewart also reflected on his changing relationship with Trump, with whom he was once friendly. Residing only half a mile apart in Palm Beach, Florida, Stewart had previously attended Trump's Christmas parties, finding him to be a "man's man" despite acknowledging that Trump "didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well."
However, Stewart believes Trump transformed significantly after assuming the presidency, becoming "another guy" he didn't recognize. The musician ultimately stated he could no longer consider Trump a friend, citing one particular policy as an unforgivable barrier: Trump's continued sale of arms to Israelis. Stewart questioned, "How's that war ever gonna stop?" in light of such actions, solidifying his definitive break from their past camaraderie.
