Regina Daniels Fires Back at Critics: 'Stop Insulting My Mum Over Ned Nwoko Marriage!'
Actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has publicly appealed to Nigerians to cease insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, amidst the ongoing marital crisis between Regina and Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North. The 25-year-old made this plea in a video posted on her Instagram page, following her mother's accusations against the 64-year-old lawmaker.
Just hours before Regina's appeal, her mother, Rita Daniels, had accused Ned Nwoko of marrying her daughter for fame and personal gain. PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that Rita alleged that both she and Regina had provided financial support for Mr. Nwoko's senatorial campaign during the 2023 general elections. These claims intensified public scrutiny of the high-profile marriage.
Regina Daniels clarified that her decision to marry Mr. Nwoko was not motivated by greed, directly refuting public speculation. She disclosed that her mother and other family members had initially warned her against the marriage. "We were not broke," Regina asserted, dismissing the notion that financial incentives played a role in her choice. She further questioned the idea that a man could offer enough money to a mother whose child practically provides everything for the family and trained all her children through that child.
The mother of two revealed the profound distress she experienced when her mother, siblings, and other relatives opposed her marriage to Mr. Nwoko, reaching a point where she contemplated taking her own life. "She warned me. My brothers warned me. Everybody warned me, and then I drove out at night. I was going to kill myself if I didn't marry Ned," Regina recounted, expressing deep feelings of love for Mr. Nwoko at the time, despite the widespread disapproval. She reiterated, "I actually really did [fall in love]."
Regina initially chose not to openly conflict with Mr. Nwoko, explaining that her primary motivation was to protect the reputation of her children, Munir and Khalifa. She stated, "The only reason I am not fighting you, Ned, is that I want Munir and Khalifa's father's name to be strong." However, the current situation has seen a shift in her stance.
The actress disclosed that her family is currently in "turmoil" due to her decision to leave Mr. Nwoko. She emphasized her resolve to fight for her children, regardless of the circumstances, stating, "I'll fight for them. I'll take them. I'll train them. I'll raise them, with or without your support." She also mentioned that her brother initiated a petition, which garnered significant support in a short period, highlighting the family's collective fight on her behalf.
The couple's marital issues became public in October when Regina first accused the lawmaker of physical assault, asserting her unwillingness to remain in the marriage due to alleged abuse. Mr. Nwoko, in turn, denied these allegations, attributing Regina's behavior to substance abuse. Since this initial fallout, further controversies have emerged, including Regina's announcement of acquiring a new house and declaring herself "a queen in her own abode." More recently, Regina alleged that Mr. Nwoko ordered the arrest of her brother and sister, expressing concern for her younger sister's safety.
As of press time, Senator Ned Nwoko has not publicly responded to the latest allegations made by Regina, her mother, and her siblings. A review of his social media platforms indicates that his recent posts have focused on ongoing empowerment initiatives for his constituents, with no statements addressing the current claims.
