Rapper Ghetts Jailed 12 Years Over Fatal Hit-and-Run

Rapper and actor Justin Clarke-Samuel, known professionally as Ghetts, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a deadly hit-and-run in London. The 41-year-old was also banned from driving for 17 years after pleading guilty to causing the death of 20-year-old Nepalese student Yubin Tamang.
The incident occurred on October 18 in North East London when Ghetts struck Tamang while driving under the influence of alcohol. Prosecutors said the artist fled the scene and returned home, while Tamang later died from his injuries two days after the crash.
Investigators found Ghetts was speeding in a BMW X5 at more than 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. Evidence gathered by the Crown Prosecution Service included CCTV footage, toxicology reports, and mobile phone data tracing his movements across the city.
District Crown Prosecutor Shani Taggart said Clarke-Samuel knew he was unfit to drive and showed reckless disregard for other road users. The case resulted in guilty pleas for causing death by dangerous driving and another count of dangerous driving.
At the time of the crash, Ghetts had begun filming the second season of the Netflix series Supacell. The project was reportedly halted following the incident and his subsequent arrest.
On the music front, the artist’s most recent album, On Purpose, With Purpose, was released in 2024 and featured several collaborations. His sentencing marks a dramatic fall for the East London rapper whose career spanned music, television, and film.
