President Tinubu's Epic Year-End Tour Kicks Off Amidst High Security and Key Engagements

President Bola Tinubu embarked on a significant three-state tour, visiting Borno, Bauchi, and Lagos states on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 11:45 am, utilizing a 20-year-old Boeing 737 Business Jet for his travels.

His first stop was Maiduguri, Borno State, where his aircraft touched down at approximately 12:55 p.m. President Tinubu was received by a delegation of governors, including Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Dikko Radda of Katsina State, Amadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, alongside other senior government officials. In Borno, the President's itinerary included the inauguration of key development projects, such as the newly constructed airport's extension and VIP wing, aimed at enhancing air transport operations and passenger handling. He was also scheduled to inaugurate other landmark projects executed by the Borno State Government in the transport and education sectors. Additionally, President Tinubu attended the Nikkah and marriage ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno Governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem.

Ahead of the President's visit to Borno, the State Police Command implemented extensive security measures. The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, through the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, announced the deployment of a robust security architecture. This included conventional police personnel, tactical teams, surveillance squads, crowd control units, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to ensure a safe and hitch-free visit. Temporary vehicular restrictions and diversions were enforced on key routes, particularly from Airport Road to Shehu Road in Maiduguri, to facilitate smooth movement of VIPs and ensure public safety. The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the presidential visit.

From Maiduguri, President Tinubu proceeded to Bauchi State. The primary purpose of his visit to Bauchi was to condole with the Bauchi State Government and the family and followers of the late revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a respected leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, passed away in late November 2025, aged 98. In anticipation of the presidential engagement, the Bauchi State government, through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, announced the temporary closure and diversion of major roads leading to the Sheikh’s mosque and other strategic locations in the state capital. These measures were in effect between 1 pm and 6 pm on Saturday, citing security and traffic management concerns. Residents were urged to plan their movements accordingly, obey traffic instructions, avoid restricted areas, and cooperate fully with security agencies, with the state government expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.

Following his condolence visit in Bauchi, President Tinubu was scheduled to depart for Lagos State, where he plans to spend the upcoming end-of-year holidays. Among his engagements in Lagos, he is expected to be the guest of honor at the Eyo Festival, slated for December 27 at Tafawa Balewa Square. The festival will honor prominent figures, including President Tinubu’s mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, and former governors Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Chief Michael Otedola.

In a separate development on Friday, President Tinubu presented the 2026 budget to a joint session of lawmakers at the National Assembly complex. He described the budget, themed “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” as a defining moment in Nigeria’s national journey of reform and transformation. He acknowledged the difficulties and pressures faced by families and businesses due to necessary reforms but assured Nigerians that their sacrifices would not be in vain, emphasizing that the path of reform is the surest route to lasting stability and shared prosperity.
