President Tinubu Embarks on Landmark UK State Visit

Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18 to March 19, where he will be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
The trip marks the first time a Nigerian leader has been hosted by the British monarch at Windsor and the first state visit by a Nigerian head of state to the UK in 37 years.
Accompanied by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, the president is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, discussions will cover areas such as immigration, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation.
The royal programme includes a special exhibition from the Royal Collection highlighting shared historical ties, private discussions between the monarch and the Nigerian president, and a state banquet hosted by the Royal Family.
Beyond the royal engagements, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where several Memoranda of Understanding are expected to be signed covering trade, defence, investment, and cultural cooperation.
A major economic highlight of the visit will be the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance Nigeria to refurbish the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port Complex.
The president will also attend the “Nigerian Modernism” exhibition and a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and members of the diaspora, aimed at boosting economic collaboration.
Tinubu will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senior ministers and security officials before returning to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
