President Tinubu Bolsters Oyo Security with 1,000 Forest Guards and Elite Rescue Team
A high-powered Federal Government delegation on Sunday visited Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Following the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School on May 15, 2026.
The visit aimed to address the severe security concerns arising from this unfortunate incident.
As part of immediate measures to strengthen security in the area, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, to be implemented in collaboration with the state government.
The delegation also informed community leaders and lawmakers that their request for the establishment of a military base in the area would be conveyed to the President for his careful consideration and approval.
In addition, the President has directed a specialised security unit, equipped with advanced rescue capabilities, to intensify efforts towards securing the prompt and safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The delegation was notably led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other distinguished members included the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Rilwan Disu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
This composition reflected the high priority the Federal Government places on resolving the crisis.
Addressing residents in both English and Yoruba, Femi Gbajabiamila conveyed the President’s deep distress over the incident, stating that Mr. President is "deeply troubled by this incident."
He assured the communities that "Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely."
Gbajabiamila further affirmed that the President has issued all necessary directives and is providing every required support to security agencies to achieve this critical objective.
He acknowledged the profound pain and anxiety felt by the affected families, promising an intelligence-led and carefully coordinated rescue operation, employing both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to ensure the victims' safe return.
He also specifically addressed appeals from some parents and community members urging caution in the rescue efforts, reassuring them of a meticulously planned approach.
Beyond the immediate communities, the delegation also paid a visit to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso land, HRM Kabiyesi Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, to commiserate with him and his people over the abduction.
In a poignant meeting, they also visited Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, the wife of a deceased school teacher, and her two children.
Gbajabiamila delivered the President’s heartfelt condolences to the family, coupled with a solemn promise that they would not suffer as a result of this tragedy.
