Kingsley Moghalu Rejects Inclusion in Atiku’s 2027 Campaign Policy Team
Former CBN deputy governor Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has disowned his inclusion in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign's policy team for the 2027 election, stating he was not consulted or gave consent. Moghalu clarified that he withdrew from partisan politics in 2022 and maintains a non-partisan stance, focusing on statesmanship rather than political alignment.
Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor Kingsley Moghalu has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, saying he was neither consulted nor asked to consent before his name was published.
Atiku’s campaign had listed Moghalu among members of its Policy Team in the campaign structure unveiled on Thursday, September 24, with economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen coordinating the team alongside Professor Mohammed Sagagi.
Moghalu said he was surprised by the announcement and stressed that he is not a member of Atiku’s policy team, either officially, unofficially, or in an advisory capacity.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, Moghalu said, “I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.” He reiterated that he had withdrawn from partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022 and said he is not a member or sympathiser of any political party in the country.
Moghalu identified his current roles as President of IGET Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and CEO of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm, adding that his commitment to Nigeria should not be interpreted as partisan alignment.
Atiku’s campaign structure names Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as National Campaign Council Chairman, Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager. The structure is organised into six operational directorates, with 30 directors assigned specific responsibilities, while Dele Momodu is set to oversee Media and Communications and Dino Melaye will lead Contact and Mobilisation.
The campaign said the structure would focus on issues including food, transportation and energy costs, unemployment, insecurity, declining purchasing power and governance, while Moghalu’s rejection means his inclusion in the announced policy team is disputed by Moghalu himself.
