Wike Accuses Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso of Deception Over Opposition Credibility Claims
Nyesom Wike has publicly criticized leading opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing them as “known liars” during his monthly media briefing in Abuja.
He accused them of misleading Nigerians with promises of a credible alternative to the current political system. Wike’s remarks add fresh tension to Nigeria’s already heated political environment.
The Minister also targeted opposition platforms including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging that their recent primary elections exposed deep internal contradictions.
He argued that despite branding themselves as reform-driven alternatives, both parties failed to demonstrate credible internal democratic processes. According to him, these failures raise doubts about their capacity to govern effectively at the national level.
Wike further referenced what he described as chaotic and disputed primaries within the opposition, insisting that even smaller-scale internal elections were plagued by protests and disorganization.
He questioned how parties that claim to represent democratic renewal could struggle with basic internal electoral procedures. In his words, these inconsistencies undermine their criticism of other political parties and expose contradictions in their public messaging.
Concluding his remarks, Wike insisted that recent events have revealed what he called the hypocrisy of opposition leaders positioning themselves as political “saviours” of Nigeria. He argued that Nigerians can now see through such claims, asserting that established political structures remain more reliable for governance. His comments reflect ongoing rivalry and deepening political friction ahead of future electoral contests.
