Political Buzz: Ex-President Buhari's Son, Yusuf, Declares House of Reps Ambition!

Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest a seat in the House of Representatives during the 2027 general elections. This significant development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to former President Buhari, in a post on X. Mr. Ahmad stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with various stakeholders, indicating a strategic move into the political arena.
Yusuf Buhari is seeking to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). A letter dated April 3, signed by Yusuf himself, further solidified his interest in the position. In this letter, he articulated his primary motivation, expressing his profound desire to contribute to good leadership and bring about tangible development to the people of his constituency. He also explicitly requested the support of stakeholders, noting that their backing would be crucial in realizing his plans for the constituency.
This declaration marks Yusuf Buhari's first known foray into electoral politics since his father concluded his tenure as president in 2023. The announcement comes after a series of discussions among party members in the Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, where strong support was expressed for his potential candidacy. These preparatory meetings involved key party members and officials from the constituency, who deliberated on strategies and preparations for the upcoming 2027 elections. Former President Muhammadu Buhari served as the President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, and his son's entry into politics signifies a new chapter for the family in Nigerian governance.
