Pistons Star Cunningham Sidelined with Collapsed Lung

All-Star guard Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons, currently leading the Eastern Conference, will remain sidelined for at least another week as he recovers from a collapsed left lung. The team provided an update on Thursday, stating that Cunningham is scheduled to be reevaluated in one week's time. He is actively working towards his return to the court, with his recovery process being closely supervised by the Pistons' medical and performance staff, alongside doctors.
Cunningham's injury was initially announced by the Detroit Pistons on March 19. Despite his absence, Cunningham has been a pivotal player for the team, averaging an impressive 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game. This statistical achievement places him in an elite category, as only eight players in NBA history have concluded a season with averages of that many points and assists. Should he maintain these numbers, Cunningham would be the first player ever to achieve this feat while wearing a Detroit Pistons uniform.
The Pistons, demonstrating strong performance even without Cunningham, have already clinched the Central Division title. They hold a significant four-game lead over the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, with only six games remaining in the regular season. The team is set to host Minnesota on Thursday night as they continue their playoff preparations. Their postseason journey in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals is scheduled to commence either on April 18 or April 19.
