Paramount+ Shatters Records: New Western Series Becomes Biggest Streaming Premiere!

There’s no denying that Taylor Sheridan is an absolute force in the TV world, be it with the shows he writes or the ones he only produces.

Sheridan returned to the world of Yellowstone earlier this year for the new spin-off, Marshals, which has spent weeks dominating CBS viewership and Paramount Plus streaming charts.

The show was met with the worst reception in history for any Sheridan-produced project, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most-watched titles in the world.

Around the same time that Marshals was taking over the world, Sheridan aired all six episodes of The Madison onto Paramount Plus over two weeks.

The completely original neo-Western stars Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, and it’s been renewed for both a second and third season — Season 2 could even come as early as late 2026.

Sheridan’s latest big project is Dutton Ranch, another Yellowstone spin-off that has been met with a much more positive reception than Marshals.

At the time of writing, Dutton Ranch holds scores of 88% from critics and 83% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, with most viewers agreeing it’s a great watch not only for long-time Yellowstone fans, but also for newcomers to the Sheridan Western universe.

This afternoon, Paramount announced that Dutton Ranch is officially the biggest original series debut in Paramount Plus history after earning 12.9 million viewers during its first week on streaming and an additional 2.9 million viewers on Paramount Network.

Dutton Ranch is also the #1 Nielsen show in the world, and it dominates all demographics, but especially those from ages 18–49.

Sheridan continues to prove he’s worth the $1 billion NBCUniversal gave him to leave Paramount.

The official synopsis for "Dutton Ranch," which features Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly in leading roles, details a compelling narrative: “As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together - far from the ghosts of Yellowstone - they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.

In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul.”

The series was skillfully written and created for television by Chad Feehan, who also serves as the showrunner.

Feehan previously collaborated with Sheridan on another critically acclaimed Western, "Lawmen: Bass Reeves," starring David Oyelowo and Barry Pepper.

The intricate worlds crafted by Sheridan, explored through projects like "Yellowstone," "Landman," "Tulsa King," and "Mayor of Kingstown," reveal a consistent thematic core.

These shows delve into brutal, complicated landscapes built on power, unwavering loyalty, and the relentless struggle for survival, presenting characters who must constantly make difficult choices and bear their inherent costs.

For those who align with the "Yellowstone" ethos, the drive comes from a deep-seated commitment to protecting a way of life, land, and legacy that the modern world threatens to erase.

These individuals lead with fierce conviction and loyalty, embracing their role as the last line of defense against those who seek to undermine what they hold dear.

The world of "Landman" appeals to those who thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, navigating the lucrative yet brutal oil fields of West Texas.

They are fixers – sharp, adaptable, and unsentimental, with an acute understanding of human motivations, always clear-eyed about what people want and the lengths they will go to achieve it.

"Tulsa King" resonates with individuals who have served their time and arrived somewhere unexpected, armed only with their reputation and wit.

They adapt without losing themselves, building loyalty through respect, and proving that they are more capable than the world gave them credit for, often constructing their own empires wherever they land.

Finally, "Mayor of Kingstown" speaks to those who shoulder the immense weight of a system inherently designed to be broken.

They operate in a world devoid of good options, forced to choose between less catastrophic ones.

Fluent in the languages of law enforcement, criminals, and politicians, they are invaluable yet constantly targeted, having made peace with the heavy burden of keeping the peace.

Sheridan's continued output, marked by these diverse yet thematically consistent narratives, reinforces his status as a pivotal figure in contemporary television, constantly expanding and enriching his unique universe of complex characters and high-stakes drama.
