Oyo Guber Race Intensifies: APC's Alli Picks Adedeji, Submits Form

The political landscape in Oyo State is heating up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially formalized its bid for the 2027 governorship election. On Thursday, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the party's chosen governorship candidate, received his nomination form from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This significant event, held in Ibadan, was marked by the formal unveiling of Hon. Adesoji Adedeji as Senator Alli's running mate, solidifying the APC's ticket for the upcoming gubernatorial race.

The gathering drew a considerable crowd of party leaders, dedicated stakeholders, and enthusiastic supporters from across Oyo State, all united in the party's intensified efforts to reclaim power in the state by 2027. Hon. Adesoji Adedeji, an accomplished economist and politician hailing from Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area, was introduced as the deputy governorship candidate, a moment met with cheers and strong affirmations from the party faithful. In his address, Adedeji unequivocally pledged his loyalty to the APC and committed to working hand-in-hand with Senator Alli to deliver a people-oriented leadership should they be elected to office.

The official presentation of the INEC nomination form was conducted by Gbenga Olayemi, the APC Deputy National Auditor. Olayemi emphasized that Senator Alli was the collective and strategic choice of the party, urging all members to set aside any differences and rally behind the newly formed ticket as the 2027 election approaches. He formally declared, "On behalf of the leadership of our great party, I hereby officially present to Senator Sharafadeen Alli the nomination form from INEC as the authentic candidate of the APC for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State," underscoring the party's unified front.

Echoing the call for solidarity, Moses Adeyemo, the Oyo State APC Chairman and former Deputy Governor, also implored party members to transcend any internal divisions and collaborate diligently towards securing a victory in 2027. Adeyemo stressed that unity remains the most potent asset for the party in its crucial quest to return to the helm of power in the state. He expressed confidence, stating, "By the grace of God, come May 29, 2027, our governor and deputy governor will be Senator Sharafadeen Alli and Hon. Adesoji Adedeji. I appeal to everyone to remain united and committed to the task ahead," thereby setting a clear vision for the party's future.

Upon receiving the nomination form, Senator Alli delivered a heartfelt speech, describing his emergence as a profound victory for democracy, a testament to perseverance, and a reflection of the collective aspirations of the people of Oyo State. He extended his deep gratitude to key figures and institutions, including President Bola Tinubu, the leadership of the APC at both national and state levels, security agencies, and the scores of party members who offered unwavering support throughout the primary election process. In his subsequent remarks, Hon. Adedeji reiterated his appreciation to the party leadership and the governorship candidate for the immense trust and confidence placed in him.
