Arokodare Faces Online Racism After Missed Penalty Kick

Wolverhampton Wanderers strikerTolu Arokodare has been subjected to racist abuse online following his missed penalty in Sunday’s 1–0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

After the final whistle, the 26-year-old received a wave of discriminatory messages on social media.

Wolves strongly condemned the abuse, describing it as “abhorrent and unlawful” and making it clear there is “no place for racism — in football, online, or anywhere.”

The club confirmed it has reported the posts and will work with the Premier League and authorities to identify those responsible, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on discrimination.

Arokodare also spoke out, expressing disbelief that racism continues so openly in modern football and calling for real consequences for offenders.

The incident follows similar cases involving Romaine Mundle, Wesley Fofana, and Hannibal Mejbri, all of whom faced online abuse in recent weeks.

In Europe, UEFA has also launched an investigation involving Vinícius Júnior and Gianluca Prestianni over alleged racial remarks.

Anti-discrimination body Kick It Out noted that reports of racism this season have reached record levels, stressing that while awareness campaigns matter, stronger action and accountability from social media platforms are urgently needed.

The abuse followed a key moment in the match.

With the score at 0–0, Arokodare’s penalty was saved by Palace GoalkeeperDean Henderson.

Palace later sealed the win through Evann Guessand, leaving Wolves at the bottom of the table.

Arokodare, who joined Wolves from Genk for a reported €26 million, has scored two league goals this season but has struggled for consistency.

The defeat deepens Wolves’ relegation fears, with their Premier League survival now hanging by a thread.

It’s another painful reminder that while football continues to evolve on the pitch, the fight against racism off it is far from over.
