Oscar Glory: Michael B. Jordan & Wunmi Mosaku Make History With First Noms for 'Sinners'!

The film Sinners has etched its name into Academy Awards history, earning an unprecedented 16 nominations—the most ever received by a single film. This historic achievement represents a major milestone for the cast and creators, including first-time Oscar nominees Michael B. Jordan, who received a Best Actor nod, and Wunmi Mosaku, recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category. Their individual honors mark defining moments in their careers and underscore the film’s extraordinary impact this awards season.
Ryan Coogler’s Thriller Redefines Awards Benchmarks
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the supernatural thriller has officially surpassed the long-standing Oscar nomination record of 14, previously shared by cinematic classics such as All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. With this achievement, Sinners sets a new standard for Academy recognition, reinforcing Coogler’s reputation as one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation.
In addition to its historic nomination count, Sinners secured nods in the most prestigious categories, including Best Picture and Best Director. Delroy Lindo also earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination, further strengthening the film’s commanding presence in the acting categories.
Sweeping Recognition Across Every Major Category
Beyond its acting and directing accolades, Sinners achieved a rare feat by earning nominations across every technical category—placing it alongside elite productions such as Titanic, Mad Max:Fury Road, and Dune. With its Best Original Song nomination for “I Lied to You,” the film becomes only the second in Oscar history, after Titanic, to receive nominations in all major creative and technical fields.
The film’s full list of nominations includes: Best Picture, Best Director (Ryan Coogler), Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku), Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo), Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Song (“I Lied to You”), Best Casting, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Score—cementing its status as a complete artistic and technical triumph.
The nominations were announced by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman during a live event at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. The 2026 Oscars will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, at 4 p.m. PT, with Conan O’Brien returning as host for a second consecutive year on ABC and Hulu.
