Opposition Forces Unite: Turaki-led PDP Plots Alliance to Topple APC in 2027

The Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally endorsed the initiative spearheaded by the G-100, a collective of 100 prominent opposition figures. This move aims to establish a unified all-opposition platform designed to effectively challenge the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 general elections. The PDP articulated that its decision stems from an urgent necessity for opposition political entities and various organizations to collaborate in addressing what it characterizes as escalating challenges, including widespread poverty, pervasive insecurity, and subpar governance experienced under the administration led by President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

In an official statement released on Tuesday by Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP's Interim National Working Committee, the party confirmed its active participation in the inaugural meeting of the G-100, which took place on August 31, 2026. The PDP emphasized that its involvement aligns with its previously stated commitment to forge alliances with “like-minded political parties and organisations” that share the objective of extricating the nation from its present difficulties.

According to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, who serves as the party’s National Chairman, the PDP’s engagement in this collaborative process will be firmly anchored on fundamental principles such as transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making, and egalitarianism. Turaki expressed the party’s conviction that a process meticulously guided by these foundational tenets possesses the potential to yield credible leadership. Such leadership, he believes, would be proficient in effectively tackling the severe economic hardships and persistent security challenges currently facing the country. He was quoted as stating, “Our participation is anchored on the promise that the process will be hinged on the philosophical underpinnings of transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism.” He further elaborated that any outcome or leadership produced through such a principled process would be capable of providing Nigerians with “credible leadership capable of alleviating the skyrocketing poverty and rising insecurity in the country.”

The PDP underscored that its commitment to and participation in the G-100 initiative serves as a clear demonstration of its readiness to contribute significantly to the emergence of a formidable all-opposition platform. This platform’s ultimate goal is to dislodge the APC from power in 2027 and subsequently “rebuild Nigeria for the good of all Nigerians,” thereby fostering a more prosperous and secure future for all citizens.
