OKX Europe Unleashes Simplified Leveraged Trading Amidst Strict MiCA and MiFID II Regulations
OKX Europe has launched X-Perps in Simple Mode, a new interface for retail derivatives trading offering leveraged positions across various instruments. This release, designed for user simplicity, also introduces automated range trading with the Futures Grid Bot and performance analysis. Dual-licensed under MiCA and MiFID II, OKX aims to compete in the European retail derivatives market.OKX Europe has introduced X-Perps in Simple Mode, a streamlined interface designed for retail derivatives trading, which became available on iOS and Android across European markets on 28 July 2026. This product enables users to engage in leveraged long or short positions across over 80 instruments, including crypto, equities, commodities, and exchange-traded funds. Leverage is capped at 10x, and settlement can be made in USD, USDC, or USDG.
The launch of X-Perps is strategically timed to align with the current earnings season for major US technology companies, a period that typically stimulates retail interest in equity-linked derivatives products. OKX highlights that the entry price for X-Perps positions is locked at the open, effectively eliminating slippage risk at both the entry and exit points of a trade. Users also have the flexibility to adjust take-profit and stop-loss levels and increase their position size without needing to close and re-open the trade.
Accompanying the Simple Mode launch are two additional key features. The Futures Grid Bot offers an automated solution for range trading, allowing users to define a price band within which the bot automatically executes buy orders on price dips and sell orders on bounces. This bot operates continuously and supports optional leverage across long, short, or neutral orientations. Additionally, the PnL Analysis Center provides an aggregated view of performance data across all instruments, assisting traders in identifying patterns and refining their trading strategies.
OKX positions these three tools as a progressive pathway for traders: Simple Mode for straightforward directional trades, the Futures Grid Bot for sophisticated automated range strategies, and the PnL Analysis Center for comprehensive performance review. For traders seeking more extensive control, OKX's full Exchange Mode remains accessible within the same application.
Erald Ghoos, CEO of OKX Europe, commented on the new offering, stating, “Many Europeans are already familiar with going long or short and want the flexibility to engage with markets in the way that suits them. Simple Mode gives people the essentials in a familiar interface without added complexity.”
From a regulatory standpoint, OKX Europe Markets Limited is authorized by the Malta Financial Services Authority under the Investment Services Act. The company also holds a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) licence, making it one of a select group of crypto derivatives providers dual-licensed under both MiCA and MiFID II within the European Economic Area. This dual-licence position is commercially significant. MiCA, fully applicable for crypto-asset service providers in December 2024, establishes a passporting framework across EEA member states but imposes stringent disclosure, capital, and custody obligations, increasing operational costs.
MiFID II further adds a layer of conduct rules specifically for equity and commodity derivatives. Holding both licences provides OKX Europe with the legal foundation to offer the mixed-asset product set that X-Perps now covers. However, this also means the product is subject to suitability and leverage-cap obligations, which are applied differently to retail and professional clients.
The simplified-interface strategy employed by OKX mirrors a broader trend among crypto derivatives platforms vying for retail market share in Europe. In this market, CFD brokers and spread-betting firms have long provided similar long-short products to retail audiences under MiFID II. OKX is now directly competing in this retail derivatives segment alongside established non-crypto platforms, which offers both a larger addressable market and a more demanding baseline for conduct. How OKX manages appropriateness assessments and marketing restrictions under this combined regulatory framework will be closely observed by both competitors and the MFSA. The company has confirmed that the product is live across Europe and is accompanied by a standard leveraged-products disclaimer, cautioning that losses can occur quickly and that these instruments may not be suitable for all investors.
