Nwabali's Shock Chippa Exit & Global Plea: Star Goalkeeper Eyes New Horizon

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially become a free agent, departing from South African club Chippa United by mutual consent after a transformative four-year spell. The highly-rated 29-year-old shot-stopper confirmed his openness to joining any club, whether local or international, emphasizing that he has placed no restrictions on his next move. His primary focus is on finding the right 'sporting project' rather than rushing into a decision, stating that "football deals with happiness, and my happiness comes first."
Nwabali's profile surged significantly during his time at Chippa United, where he established himself as one of the continent's most reliable goalkeepers. His stellar performances in the South African Premier League earned him a call-up to the Nigerian national team. He notably excelled at the most recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where his penalty heroics cemented his place as a key player for the Super Eagles and contributed to their third-place finish. He was also the club captain for Chippa United, making his departure a considerable blow for the 'Chilli Boyz'.
Despite widespread speculation linking him with numerous clubs across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, Nwabali revealed that he is yet to receive any concrete or official offers. He mentioned that the only calls he has received are from family and friends who were surprised by the news of his departure.
The list of clubs reportedly monitoring Nwabali's situation is extensive. In South Africa, local giants like Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been mentioned as possible destinations. Beyond the country's borders, Moroccan side Raja Club Athletic and Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC are reportedly keen on strengthening their squads with his talent. International suitors also include Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq and English Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers (QPR). A move to QPR would represent a significant step up, offering Nwabali his first taste of European football.
Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi confirmed that he was not involved in the negotiations surrounding Nwabali's exit, stating that discussions were handled directly by the club chairman. Vilakazi acknowledged the loss, calling Nwabali a "super keeper," but affirmed his commitment to working with the players currently in the system and seeking a suitable replacement to maintain high competition within the squad. Nwabali is now expected to carefully weigh his options in the coming weeks to secure a new club and maintain peak fitness for the Super Eagles' upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
