Nigerians Surge Online: Over 4 Million Register for Votes in a Month

Nigeria's nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has seen significant engagement in its first four weeks, with a total of 4,445,505 citizens pre-registering online. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported these figures as the online pre-registration commenced on August 18, 2025. Concurrently, in-person registration began on August 25, 2025, further expanding accessibility for potential voters across the nation.
According to Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the combined total of completed online pre-registrations and physical registrations reached 509,929 as of Friday, September 12, 2025. This indicates a steady progression in the official voter enrollment process.
A detailed breakdown of the 4,445,505 online pre-registrants reveals interesting demographic trends. Females constitute a slight majority, with 2,304,211 individuals (51.83%), while males account for 2,141,294 individuals (48.17%). A significant portion of these online registrants falls within the younger age bracket, with 2,924,643 individuals (65.79%) being between 18 and 34 years old. Furthermore, students represent a substantial demographic, making up 1,112,344 (25.02%) of the total online pre-registrants.
Similarly, the demographics for the 509,929 completed online and physical registrations as of September 12, 2025, show comparable patterns. Females again lead in this category with 280,171 individuals (54.94%), compared to 229,758 males (45.06%). Young people aged 18 to 34 continue to dominate, accounting for 378,132 individuals (74.15%) of the completed registrations, while students comprise 196,529 individuals (38.54%). These statistics highlight the active participation of youth and women in the ongoing voter registration drive.
Regarding the registration process in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), INEC announced specific timelines. The online voter pre-registration in the FCT concluded on Monday, September 15, 2025. Following this, the physical (in-person) registration option will be available at designated venues for the subsequent two weeks. Subsequently, the commission plans to devolve the registration process to all 62 wards within the FCT, scheduled to run from September 29 to October 8, 2025. Detailed addresses for these centers have been made available on INEC's official platforms, ensuring public awareness and access to the registration facilities.
