Nigerian Secret Police DSS Rocked By Mass Dismissal: 115 Personnel Fired Over Unscrupulous Activities

The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the dismissal of 115 personnel from its service, a move described as a crucial part of ongoing internal reform initiatives within the agency. These dismissals, which occurred between 2024 and 2025, aim to purge the organization of misconduct and fraudulent activities, thereby reinforcing accountability within the security apparatus.
In a notice released on Tuesday, the secret police sternly advised the public to cease any official dealings with these dismissed individuals. The DSS highlighted that some of these former operatives might still be attempting to pose as legitimate personnel, engaging in unscrupulous activities that could defraud citizens. To mitigate this risk and ensure clarity, the DSS has taken the measure of publishing the names and pictures of all 115 dismissed personnel on its official website, dss.gov.ng, urging citizens to consult this resource to verify the legitimacy of any individual claiming to represent the service.
This reform initiative comes after previous warnings and actions taken by the DSS against former staff. Notably, the agency had earlier arrested two dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Godwin (also identified as Victor Onyedikachi Godwin), for allegedly using the agency’s name to defraud citizens. These individuals, who were previously subjects of public warnings regarding their fraudulent activities, have now been apprehended and are set to face prosecution. The DSS emphasized that such actions underscore its commitment to maintaining integrity and trust within its ranks and with the public.
For any requests, enquiries, or complaints related to the Department of State Services, the public is encouraged to contact the Service directly via telephone at 09088373515, or through email at [email protected]. This proactive communication strategy is part of the broader governmental efforts to enhance transparency and enforce accountability across all security agencies, ensuring that public confidence in these institutions remains steadfast.
