Nigeria's Brand-Influencer Revolution: Phenom Communications Unveils 'Partnership Blueprint'

Phenom Communications hosted The Partnership Blueprint, an exclusive, invitation-only industry gathering, on January 16 at the Radisson Blu Anchorage, Victoria Island, Lagos. The high-level event convened key stakeholders from Nigeria’s creative, brand, media, and legal ecosystems to examine the evolving dynamics of brand–influencer partnerships. Designed as a candid working forum rather than a traditional conference, the gathering focused on expectations, ethics, value creation, and long-term sustainability within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding creator economy.
The event opened with a keynote by Obi Asika, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, who emphasized the growing cultural and economic power of Nigeria’s creative industries and the urgent need for stronger regulatory frameworks to protect both creators and brands. This was followed by a guest session led by BellaNaija founder, Uche Pedro, who spoke on gender parity in media, the evolution of digital influence, and the responsibility of platforms in shaping credible and ethical partnerships.
A core strength of The Partnership Blueprint was its balanced representation across the partnership value chain. An Influencer-Led Panel, moderated by Ariyiike Owolagba, featured creators including Ify Mogekwu, Tania Omotayo, Layi Wasabi, and Gbemi Giwa, who shared firsthand experiences around creative freedom, compensation, unclear deliverables, and the tension between courtesy and paid engagements. From the brand and agency perspective, professionals such as Lola Mimi Marcus, Omotunde Ibironke, Olamoniso Nduka, Cyril Onih, and Rereloluwa Thomas offered insights into KPIs, ROI pressures, reputation management, and the complexities agencies face as intermediaries, reinforcing the need for clearer industry standards.
The conversation was further deepened by a Legal and Ethics Fireside Chat, moderated by Margaret Anavhe, featuring Nosa Garrick and Onyinye Arthur-Okonkwo, which addressed contracts, usage rights, disclosures, and ethical governance in influencer partnerships. A live consensus session revealed differing but nuanced views on key industry questions, underscoring the need for context-driven, transparent partnership structures. Reflecting on the event, Phenom Communications CEO Teresa Aligbe noted that the forum marked a strong first step toward alignment and fairer collaboration, setting the tone for more sustainable brand–creator partnerships within Nigeria’s creative economy.
