Baba Sadiq Abdulai Named Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria

President John Mahama has appointed creative entrepreneur Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The appointment, announced by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 1, 2026, and confirmed by Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, reflects the strategic importance Ghana places on its relationship with Nigeria, a key economic and political partner in West Africa.
Abu’s nomination, pending formal acceptance by the Nigerian government in line with diplomatic protocol, positions him to deepen bilateral cooperation in commerce, culture, and diplomacy.
The appointment follows the recall of the former High Commissioner, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed (Baba Jamal), on February 7, 2026.
He was withdrawn after participating in and winning the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primaries for the Ayawaso East Constituency, amid allegations of voter inducement.
The transition signals a reset in Ghana’s diplomatic representation in Abuja at a time when regional collaboration remains critical.
Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu brings over two decades of experience across media, communications, entrepreneurship, and politics.
A trained media and communications specialist, he previously contested the Okaikoi Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections but was unsuccessful.
He is the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of 3 Media Networks Limited, operators of 3Music TV and the 3Music Awards, and the founder and executive director of the ESG-focused WILDALAND Foundation.
He also served as the founding director of Boomplay Ghana, where he established local operations and helped expand the digital streaming platform’s user base to nearly 11 million while securing content partnerships with Ghanaian and African creators.
His broader career includes leadership roles at Modern Times Group Africa’s Viasat1 Ghana, where his team earned 18 awards within 18 months, as well as managing Trace TV’s Ghana operations and launching the Airtel Trace Music Star reality show.
Abu co-founded Muse Africa and led its #MuseParticipate civic campaign in partnership with Oxfam International.
He has also collaborated with Viacom International Networks Africa, MTV Base, and Rockstar400, and worked on projects such as Vodafone’s 020Live and Afronation Ghana 2019.
Abu holds a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from the African University College of Communications and has deferred postgraduate LLB studies.
In 2023, he founded FulLCircL, a Pan-African 360 entertainment agency focused on live experiences, digital production, publishing, public relations, and talent management.
