Nationwide Drug Bust Shocker: Grandpa, Doctor, Couple Implicated in Massive Trafficking Ring

A 93-year-old great grandpa, Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, and a 69-year-old medical doctor Dr. Chudi Daniel Ofomata, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for trafficking skunk, a variety of cannabis, and cocaine, respectively.

Agency intensified their offensive action and crackdown on drug cartels and their collaborators in intelligence-led interdiction operations across the country.

Babafemi said the nonagenarian Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu was arrested at his home in Umuagbaigba, Amavo Nkwogu village, Osisioma local government area of Abia state on Tuesday 7th April 2026.

According to the statement, a search of his residence led to the recovery of 7.7 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis.

Babafemi said the suspect claimed he had worked as a truck pusher but later learnt painting and tiling before going into the illicit drug business over a year ago.

“He claimed he had been smoking skunk since 1959 before turning it into business,” he stated.

Babafemi added that efforts to unravel local collaborators of an international drug syndicate paid off following the arrest of an Ivorian, Gohouri Michael, 41, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano with 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49kg and the subsequent arrest of a 69-year-old medical doctor, Dr. Chudi Daniel Ofomata in a follow-up operation in Ogun state.

According to the statement, Michael Gohouri (also known as Anunwa Onyinye Michael) was arrested on Monday 16th February 2026 during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940 to Milan, Malpensa via Addis Ababa.

NDLEA operatives arrested several suspects and seized large amounts of drugs in different parts of Nigeria.

In Niger State, a couple was arrested after officers found 118kg of skunk hidden in their kitchen.

In Lagos, officers stopped a bus and found 15kg of cannabis, arresting two suspects. In another raid in Mushin, they intercepted a truck carrying 26,800 bottles of codeine syrup and arrested two more people.

In Borno State, a trailer carrying spare parts was searched, and officers discovered large quantities of drugs, including Rohypnol, codeine syrup, and injections. The owner of the goods was later arrested.

Overall, NDLEA made several arrests and seized illegal drugs across different states.

The NDLEA carried out raids across Nigeria, arresting several suspects and seizing large amounts of drugs.

In Ogun State, three men were arrested with 34kg of skunk.

In Imo State, a 26-year-old woman was caught with 56.2kg of skunk.

In the FCT (Abuja), eight suspects were arrested at a drug hotspot, and 11.516kg of skunk was seized.

In Edo State, two trucks were stopped and found carrying skunk hidden inside beer cartons.

The NDLEA says these operations are part of its efforts to fight drug trafficking in the country.
