N5.8 Billion Cannabis Seized! NDLEA Raids Lagos, Arrests Three in Massive Drug Bust
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted widespread operations, leading to significant drug seizures and multiple arrests across Anambra, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, and Kogi states. Notably, three persons with disabilities were apprehended for alleged drug trafficking, alongside a multi-billion naira Loud bust in Lagos and the dismantling of a skuchies factory.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking, recording major seizures and arrests across several states, including Lagos, Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, and Nasarawa.
A major breakthrough came in Lagos after NDLEA operatives raided a mansion at Lekki Phase 1 allegedly used as a drug stash house. During the operation, officers recovered 4,000 parcels of Loud, a strong imported strain of cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilogrammes and valued at over N5.8 billion.
Two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials were also seized during the raid. The operation aligns with ongoing anti-drug enforcement efforts by the NDLEA.
In Anambra State, operatives arrested two persons with disabilities during separate operations. Sixty-year-old Romanus Nwabara was reportedly caught in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with sachets of skunk, while 25-year-old Amos Kenneth was arrested in Ogbunike with Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol 5, and skunk in his possession.
The dangers linked to substances like Tramadol have continued to raise public health concerns globally.
Another operation in Kwara State led to the arrest of Usman Salisu after officers discovered 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk hidden inside a school bag aboard a commercial vehicle.
Along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commuter bus transporting 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilogrammes. Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In Nasarawa State, officers apprehended Emmanuel Osita Okeke with 129 kilogrammes of skunk in the Nyanya Karu area, further highlighting the scale of trafficking activities across the country.
The agency also uncovered a makeshift “skuchies” production site in Ijora Badia, Lagos. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested while allegedly producing the substance. NDLEA operatives recovered 270 litres of skuchies and quantities of Tramadol during the raid. Concerns over the rise of synthetic and cannabis-mixed street drugs have fueled wider conversations around drug abuse prevention.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), praised officers involved in the operations and urged continued momentum in the fight against illicit drugs. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to public awareness campaigns through its War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
