Professor Christopher Imumolen, the presidential candidate of the Accord Party, has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and formally endorse President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos State, Imumolen explained that his choice was driven by a profound conviction that President Tinubu’s policies and leadership genuinely serve Nigeria’s best interest.

Imumolen emphasized that his decision was not motivated by personal gain but by a deep-seated belief that the unity, stability, and ongoing development of Nigeria must take absolute precedence over his individual political aspirations. He revealed that he meticulously considered ten distinct factors before making the significant move to step down. Among these factors were the current administration's concerted efforts to reposition the country through a series of key policies and comprehensive reforms.

He further elaborated on his conviction, stating, "This decision was not borne out of personal interest but from a deep conviction that the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition." Imumolen asserted that President Tinubu has demonstrably shown the capacity to unify the nation and, as such, merits unwavering support to consolidate his administration’s critical efforts. He remarked, "If there is one man that can unite Nigeria, we have to give it to him. Tinubu has proved he has the capacity to emancipate Nigeria."

While acknowledging that other presidential candidates are actively preparing for the 2027 election, Imumolen raised questions regarding their capability to formulate and effectively implement policies that could address Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges on a scale comparable to what he believes the Tinubu administration is currently achieving. He candidly admitted that some of the administration’s policies have, in the short term, resulted in temporary hardships for citizens.
