N200 Billion Bombshell: Akpabio Slaps Akpoti-Uduaghan with Defamation Suit Over Sexual Harassment Claims

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, following her allegations of sexual harassment against him. The suit, filed on August 25 at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, demands N200 billion in general damages and N500 million in litigation costs. Mr. Akpabio also seeks a public apology from Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan in national newspapers and a formal retraction of her claims. The case, marked CV/3356/2025, asserts that the allegations severely damaged his reputation and exposed him to public ridicule, a claim supported by witnesses who testified about their altered perception of the Senate President.
Initially, court processes faced delays due to unsuccessful attempts to serve Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan directly. Consequently, a court order issued on November 6 permitted Mr. Akpabio to serve the documents through the Clerk to the National Assembly.
