Rihanna, Elton John and Shakira Named to TIME’s Inaugural Philanthropy List
TIME magazine has launched its TIME100 Philanthropy list, honoring global figures like Rihanna, Elton John, and Shakira for their significant charitable contributions. The list celebrates their efforts in areas such as healthcare, education, and disaster relief, aiming to inspire greater philanthropic action worldwide.
Rihanna, Elton John and Shakira are among the global figures recognized in the inaugural TIME100 Philanthropy list, a new ranking celebrating individuals making a significant impact through charitable work.
The initiative shifts the spotlight from professional achievements to philanthropic leadership, highlighting those using their influence and resources to address pressing social challenges around the world.
Rihanna was featured in the Trailblazers category for the work of the Clara Lionel Foundation, which she founded in 2012 in memory of her late grandmother. The organization has supported projects focused on climate resilience, education, healthcare and the arts across several regions, including the Caribbean, the United States and parts of Africa.
Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, were recognized for their long-running efforts through the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The charity has spent decades funding HIV prevention, treatment and advocacy programmes around the world.
Shakira also earned a place on the list for her work with the Barefoot Foundation, which supports education initiatives in Colombia. Her foundation has helped expand access to quality education, including teacher training programmes and school development projects.
Country music icon Willie Nelson was honoured for his role in co-founding Farm Aid, a benefit concert initiative that has raised millions of dollars for farmers and rural communities. Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper was recognized for supporting public education through his nonprofit organization, SocialWorks.
According to TIME, editors and correspondents from around the world collaborated to identify 100 individuals whose charitable efforts are helping shape communities and improve lives. The publication said the list aims to showcase the growing influence of philanthropy and encourage greater public engagement in charitable giving.
Other notable names featured include Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba, Michael Dell and Susan Dell, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, as well as Lionel Messi.
The philanthropy list joins TIME’s expanding portfolio of annual rankings, reflecting the publication’s focus on individuals whose contributions extend beyond their primary careers and leave a lasting impact on society.
