Mounjaro Mayhem: Price Hikes, Access Wars, & Dangerous DIY Hacks Grip Weight Loss Drug Craze

The cost of the popular weight-loss drug Mounjaro, manufactured by Eli Lilly, was set to significantly increase in the UK from September 1st, leading to widespread concern among patients. Initial announcements indicated wholesale prices would more than double, with the highest 15mg dose rising from £122 to £330 a month, and mid-range doses like 5mg jumping from £92 to £180. However, subsequent documents and statements revealed that pharmacists and private providers have negotiated commercial deals with Lilly to offer the drug at lower rates, meaning the top dose would instead rise to £247.50, nearly £100 less than the initially proposed list price. Eli Lilly justified the price adjustment by stating that the UK was one of the first countries to roll out Mounjaro at a significantly lower price than the European average, and the increase aims to align its list price more consistently for fair global contribution to innovation costs.
