MohBad's Family Demands Widow Drop Surname and Undergo DNA Test Amidst Ongoing Drama
The family of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has issued a directive to his widow, Wunmi, instructing her to cease using the family surname, Aloba. This instruction is provisional, pending the conclusive outcome of a court-ordered DNA test aimed at confirming the paternity of her son, Liam.
In a formal statement, jointly endorsed by Adedara Aloba, who serves as the head of the Aloba family, and Joseph Aloba, a principal member of the family, this significant decision was unveiled. The family emphasized that this measure is an integral part of their ongoing commitment to ensuring justice, transparency, and stringent accountability in the management and preservation of Mohbad's extensive legacy.
Furthermore, to facilitate the lawful administration of the late singer's estate, the family has officially appointed a dedicated team of administrators. These individuals are Samuel Ajewole Aloba, Engr. Ayodele Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Mrs. Alonge Ibukun Oluwaseun Aloba. Notably, the family has made provisions to reserve a position for Wunmi within this administrative structure, should the pending DNA test definitively confirm Liam as Mohbad's biological son.
The statement explicitly detailed the scope of authority granted to these administrators: "These Administrators are authorised to immediately apply for Letters of Administration from the Probate Registry to lawfully manage all estate assets, including royalties, bank holdings, real and personal property, and musical intellectual property." This step underscores the family's intention to secure a robust legal framework for the oversight of Mohbad's assets.
The family also took the opportunity to clarify that, contrary to some perceptions, no statutory or customary marriage had formally taken place between the late singer and Wunmi. They elaborated that the essential Yoruba traditional rites, which typically include the payment of bride price, were never fully completed or fulfilled.
In terms of legal representation, the family announced the appointment of Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, as their sole legal representative. This appointment specifically covers all matters pertaining to the DNA test results and the administration of the estate. Concurrently, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue his crucial role in engaging with investigative authorities regarding the ongoing inquiry into the cause of Mohbad's tragic death.
Finally, the family disclosed that a new burial date and a comprehensive memorial plan for the late artiste would be formally communicated to the public only after the thorough conclusion of all internal and legal processes that are presently surrounding the complex DNA paternity issue.
