Melbourne Mayhem: Riley Green Hit by Thrown Phone During Concert

Country music star Riley Green experienced a distressing incident during his performance at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday, March 14. A concertgoer from the crowd threw a cell phone, striking Green directly in the face and bringing the show to a temporary halt. The phone impacted Green near his ear, causing immediate bleeding that visibly ran down his neck following the impact.
Crew members quickly rushed to the singer's aid, using a hand towel to wipe away the blood as thousands of fans watched the scene unfold. Despite the injury and the shock of the moment, Green commendably addressed the audience from the stage, firmly stating that such behavior would not be tolerated. The individual responsible for throwing the phone was promptly removed from the venue.
Following the brief interruption, Green demonstrated remarkable resilience, shaking off the incident to complete his set, unwilling to allow a single audience member to disrupt the entire evening. He later shared details of the incident on his Instagram account, including a fan-captured clip of the moment it occurred, followed by a photo showing medics tending to his injury backstage. After receiving medical attention, he returned to the stage to successfully finish the concert.
The Melbourne show was a significant event, marking the second of two sold-out dates at Margaret Court Arena as part of the Australian leg of Green’s "Cowboy As It Gets Tour." The tour's Australian run also featured a surprise appearance by fellow country artist Randy Houser, who joined Green mid-set to perform Green’s "Cowboy As It Gets" before collaborating on Houser’s "Like a Cowboy." Green is scheduled to continue his Australian engagements with two upcoming shows at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on March 16 and 17, followed by a co-headlining slot at CMC Rocks QLD in Ipswich, Queensland, on March 20.
This incident involving Riley Green is unfortunately the latest in a concerning and growing trend of concertgoers throwing objects at performing artists during live shows, a phenomenon that has escalated over recent years. Numerous high-profile artists across various genres have been affected. In 2023, pop singer Bebe Rexha suffered a split eyebrow requiring stitches after a phone was thrown at her face during a Manhattan concert. Late in 2024, country star Zach Bryan had to halt a show at the Tacoma Dome after an item struck one of his onstage guests, prompting him to directly confront the crowd to demand the perpetrator be identified. Other prominent artists who have encountered similar dangerous incidents include Harry Styles, Kelsea Ballerini, Cardi B, and Drake, highlighting a widespread issue in live entertainment.
Beyond the challenges of touring, Riley Green remains a consistent and successful presence in country music. His third studio album, "Don’t Mind If I Do," released in 2025, produced his first solo Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hit with “Worst Way.” He also achieved critical acclaim by winning Single of the Year at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards for his collaboration with Ella Langley, “You Look Like You Love Me.” Green recently expanded his latest project with the release of "Don’t Mind If I Do (Deluxe)," adding six new tracks. He is now preparing for a packed North American leg of his "Cowboy As It Gets Tour," set to commence in April.
