Massive Recall Shakes Ram Truck Owners: 1.27 Million Vehicles Affected by Safety Glitch!
Ram has issued a significant safety recall for over 1.5 million Ram 1500 trucks worldwide, including 1.27 million in the U.S., due to improperly attached second-row seatbelt buckle anchors. This defect in certain 2019-2026 models could reduce seatbelt effectiveness and increase injury risk in crashes. Stellantis will provide free inspections and repairs to address the issue, noting one potential injury but no fatalities related to the problem.
Ram, a division of Stellantis, has initiated a substantial safety recall, affecting more than 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks globally. This recall, announced on August 04, 2026, includes approximately 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, marking it as the automaker’s largest recall of the year. The affected vehicles are certain 2019-2026 model year Ram 1500 trucks.
The primary safety concern stems from the seatbelt buckle anchors for the second-row center and driver’s-side seating positions. Ram has indicated that these anchors may not have been properly attached to the vehicle’s body during the manufacturing process. This improper attachment can compromise safety, as an inadequately secured anchor might not perform as intended during a crash, potentially reducing the effectiveness of the seatbelt and increasing the risk of injury to a rear-seat passenger.
Stellantis, the parent company, has acknowledged one injury that is potentially linked to this issue, but no fatalities have been reported. The company clarifies that the front seat belt anchors are not affected by this particular recall. Seatbelt anchors are critical components designed to remain firmly connected to the vehicle structure, enabling them to withstand collision forces.
To remedy this defect, Stellantis will reach out to all owners of the affected vehicles, instructing them to schedule an inspection at an authorized dealership. Technicians will thoroughly examine the second-row seatbelt buckle anchors and, if necessary, ensure they are properly secured to the truck’s body. All inspections and any required repairs will be completed free of charge to the vehicle owner.
Beyond the U.S., the recall extends to 156,138 vehicles in Canada, 15,088 in Mexico, and an additional 74,084 trucks in markets outside North America, bringing the worldwide total to more than 1.5 million vehicles.
This is not Ram’s sole recall in 2026. Earlier in the year, approximately 12,000 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickups were recalled due to an incorrect vehicle-speed calibration that could allow them to exceed their tire's maximum speed rating. Furthermore, in the previous year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into whether Stellantis had adequately fixed a prior brake-transmission shift interlock issue affecting 2013–2018 Ram trucks.
